POSITION SUMMARY
The Hewitt School is seeking a mathematics teacher as a leave replacement from April 2026 to June 2026 and August 2026 to October 2026.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach a full load of upper school mathematics courses including Calculus, with an emphasis on a problem-based learning approach
Assess students using a variety of approaches
Serve as an upper school advisor
Collaborate with department members on pedagogy and curricular scope and sequence including periodic check-ins with the department chair
Integrate learning about equity and diversity and social emotional learning into academic and advisory programming
Serve as a full member of the community by leading clubs, electives, or activities beyond classroom duties, attending school events such as concerts and games, and serving as proctor as needed
Engage fully in Hewitt’s commitment to implementing current research on girls in the classroom and beyond
Write student reports and stay in regular communication with families
Meet with students outside of class when they need support
Participate in admissions and parent education events
Chaperone field trips, including potential overnight trips
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field with a strong mathematical background
Three years teaching experience
Commitment to girls’ education
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
A master’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field with a strong mathematical background
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology or demonstrated ability to learn quickly
Experience with problem-based and inquiry-based pedagogy
Culturally responsive approach to teaching
Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
Commitment to student life
Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice
Professional practice and ability to model contemplation as part of intellectual exploration
SALARY RANGE
Starting Salary Range: $65,000 to $95,000 {prorated for duration of term} (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
