ICGS Introduction to Girls’ Schools Course

Introduction to Girls’ Schools is designed as an orientation to girls’ schools for newly hired teachers, be they seasoned educators or new to the profession.

“If you are new to working in a girls’ school, you need to take this course. It will really help you understand the DNA of girls’ schools as well as what you will need to succeed teaching girls. Instructors are knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The platform is easy to use and there is a wealth of resources available for exploration.”

The course is led by accomplished, respected girls’ school educators. Participants will explore research on girls’ education and hear directly from experts in the field on how girls learn best. They will then apply this new knowledge to classroom and school settings and receive feedback on their thoughts from expert mentors. By the end of the three-week experience, teachers will gain a clear sense of what it means to work in an all-girls school; understand research related to girls’ education and demonstrate they can apply it to their own practice; and connect to an international cohort of faculty members working in girls’ schools.


Course Format

Introduction to Girls’ Schools is a self-paced interactive course designed to take three weeks to complete and requires participants to spend approximately four hours a week engaged in the class. Coursework and assignments for each unit open at the beginning of each week and should be completed by the end of the week. Participants will connect and collaborate with each other through interactive media, including short videos and discussion boards. The class is entirely asynchronous, meaning there is no specific required time to be online, and paced so participants can work together and engage in discussion. Participants and facilitators report the primary power of this course is the engagement that happens between participants and with facilitators.


Course Dates

ICGS is proud to offer Introduction to Girls’ Schools on the following dates:

  • June 10 – 23, 2024
  • July 15 – August 2, 2024
  • January 13 – February 1, 2025

Registration Information

Participation in this course is open only to ICGS Members, at a fee of $325 USD. Each participant may select to enroll in either the June, July, or January program at the time of registration.

The Coalition is pleased to offer special rates for multiple course participants from the same school as follows: $25 discount on each registration fee for groups of 10-19; $50 discount on each registration fee for groups of 20 or more.
