POSITION SUMMARY

The part-time middle school after-school counselor will be responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment at The Hewitt School. The counselor is expected to behave in a professional manner at all times, including dress and speech. The counselor is expected to treat all members of the Hewitt community with respect, understanding, and a sense of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise middle school students enrolled in after-school from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm while school is in session
Create a productive learning environment and assist students with their homework as needed
Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with administration, teachers, parents, guardians, and caregivers about all aspects of after-school programming, including scheduling, special events, incidents, or accidents
Dismiss students to authorized adults and keep an accurate record of the dismissal time and any changes
Be responsible for attendance, dismissal, and program supervision
Respond to emergencies in a calm and professional manner and communicate with all parties involved in a timely manner

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
Knowledge of and experience with supervising and managing students in middle school and acting as a positive role model
Reliable and dependable
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides)

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

Bachelor’s degree
Proficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology or demonstrated ability to learn quickly
Investment in the social-emotional learning and cognitive development of middle school students

SALARY RANGE

Starting Salary Range: $20.00 to $25.00 per hour (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
