2022-2023 Schedule and Topics

Headwaysfor College & University Advising is facilitated by Gabrielle McColgan, Director of College Counseling at Castilleja School.

All calls will occur from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. ET / 4-5 p.m. GMT.


Headwaysfor College Counseling Professionals is open to all College Counseling Office positions including but not limited to VPs, Heads, Directors, Assistant Directors, Managers, Associates, Coordinators, etc.


November 8, 2022: Defining Success and Combating College Admissions Anxiety

Topics to consider: process versus outcomes, fit versus prestige, which metrics matter to your school, what outcomes do you track and promote, educating your constituents, creating a balanced college list, the cost of college, fear of failure, perfectionism, test anxiety


December 13, 2022: Reflecting on the Fall

Topics to consider: recommendation writing, college representative visits, document submission, early application trends, test optional/free


January 17, 2023: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice in College Advising

Topics to consider: DEIJ work in our schools, antiracism practices in college list building, developing additional programming for first gen students and families, supporting families applying for financial aid, reviewing procedures and policies, promoting inclusiveness


February 14, 2023: Preparing Girls for College and Beyond

Topics to consider: financial literacy, mental health and well-being, leave of absences, healthy relationships, lifelong learning, college transition programming


March 21, 2023: Designing a Developmentally Appropriate College Counseling Program for Girls

Topics to consider: skill building, interest inventory and strengths assessment, programming for 9th and 10th, recommended testing timeline, looking ahead to next year
